Grandpa's girl

Maddy is not yet 18 months old but she already has some preferences especially when it comes to people. If she gets a choice, she'll cuddle with dad rather than mom and boy does she light up when she sees Grandpa Paul. They seem to have a special connection and we think that is just fine. Maddy also has a best friend at daycare. A little girl that also stays at Cindi's house is a few months older than Maddy but is about the same size. When we arrive after lunch Maddy and Cali often embrace in a friendly hug and run off to play. This is not to say that they don't fight over toys on occasion but it is nice to have a playmate with similar interests, too. We are glad that we have such a great daycare provider, too.

Grandma, Grandma, Grandma & Combines

We have certainly enjoyed Grady's growing vocabulary in the past few months. We waited and waited for him to talk and now that he does, we occasionally wish he would be quiet sometimes. So what is his favorite thing to talk about? Well, a few things top the list. Currently, the 2 grandmas are pretty important to him and a close second is anything with farming especially harvest and combines. We had the pleasure of having Grandma Ruby visit recently. For 2 weeks prior to her arrival he asked at least 20 times a day "Grandma Ruby coming?" He still asks that but now we are counting down the days until he gets to go visit Grandma Ruby at her house. Other times - especially when I am driving Grady and Maddy to daycare - Grady begs to go to Grandma's house. At these times he means the other Grandma who lives about 9 miles from us. He really enjoys the toys at Grandma Karla's house. Since we live so close, he usually gets to visit this Grandma and PopPop once or twice a week. He doesn't talk about his grandpas very often but they come up from time to time. His name for Grandpa Paul is PopPop and the other grandpa is Grandpa Jimbo. We are thankful that he has both sets of Grandparents in his life and that he loves them both.

Potty Trained?

Now that Grady is over age 3, we are finally potty trained - at least daytime trained. We have been wanting to reach this milestone for more than a year. In the end, I guess we just had to wait until he decided it was something he wanted to do for himself. Night time training will happen later but for now we are thrilled to only have to buy diapers for Maddy. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but twice in the past month Maddy has pounded on the toilet seat to tell me that she needed to be changed. Hmm...maybe she'll get this figured out before she gets to 3 years old. We can only hope.

Welcome

This is a new experiment for us. Bob has been faithfully blogging on The South of Iowa and Jackie has done some blogging for her work at the library. Her blog is Humeston Reader's Advisory. Our goal with this blog is to keep a journal about the happenings of our family for relatives to check every now and then. Our blog entries will likely contain the good, the bad and the ugly about our lives as parents of Graydon and Madallyn. Visit often!
